Icy Jade Pendant - Crab Claw (NJP112)
Icy Jade Pendant - Crab Claw (NJP112)
Description
This icy jadeite pendant has a delicate carving of a crab claw or pincer. Carved from an incredibly icy jadeite rough, this interesting pendant glows with a strong lustre and has a quirky meaning behind its carving.
Crabs crawl sideways and in Chinese, this is termed as 横行. The crab pincer translates to 手 or hand of the crab. Hence in Fengshui practices, a crab claw carving symbolises 横财就手. In English, this translates to the ability to claw wealth or bring windfall to its wearer. This unique symbolism makes jade carvings in the shape of crab pincers popular amongst businessmen or any persons simply looking for better fortunes and wealth.
Symbolism aside, this jade pendant is expertly carved with 3-dimensional details to give the jadeite carving a life-like appearance. The icy jadeite has a glassy sheen to its lustre and glows incredibly due to its fine crystal aggregate structure. The natural jadeite is also completely colourless, emphasizing the cool, icy glow of the jadeite carving.
Atop the jadeite crab pincer, a pendant bail is carved directly into the jadeite rough, as a interlocked connection to the crab pincer carving. This tiny detail is intricate in its craftsmanship and is a beautiful showcase of the skill involved in this carving. This jadeite pendant bail adds a tiny movement to the pendant, allowing it to dangle freely whilst worn.
