Safety coins or 平安扣 carvings are derived from Chinese traditions. These jade carvings crafted as safety coins are usually worn to protect the wearer against ill fortunes. Fine jadeite safety coins are also a symbol of wealth and nobility and are thus worn, kept and passed down families from generation to generation as family heirlooms.
This particular icy jadeite safety coin is set with an elegant pendant clasp with diamonds covering the entirety of the clasp. The jadeite body is icy and has a slight tinge of green to the otherwise white base colour. Worn against skin, the translucency of the jadeite material can be seen clearly. Jadeite is an incredibly hardy material and a fine jadeite piece can be worn for generations. Unlike bangles, pendants have pretty low chances of hitting any hard objects and with a bit of care, they can worn and kept for quite a long time.
