The intricate jade carving on this jadeite seal depicts a lion-like creature which is symbolic in Chinese culture. The creature is known as a Fu Dog and has the likeness of a lion. Traditionally, Fu Dog statues or carvings were used as protective ornaments, protecting homes or important places. Many significant locations have a pair of Fu Dog statues symbolically standing guard at their entrances. These were also often found in homes of the influential and affluent, and often in increasingly elaborate carvings and material.
In this jade seal or stamp, the carving resembles a single Fu Dog with a stunning level of detail. The carving is very delicate and makes use of the translucent Type A jadeite to great effect. The resulting carving has a watery appearance, accentuated by its high polish. The jade carving is carved onto a jadeite block with an un-carved bottom. The jadeite has a light green hue with high translucency throughout the material. Bluish-green patterns adorn the un-carved portion of the jade seal giving the seal a natural art-like design.
The jadeite seal is guaranteed Type A with no chemical enhancements. Photos of the jadeite ornament are taken in natural lighting except for the last 2 photos which are taken in indoor lighting conditions. This helps to showcase how the jadeite piece will look like in a home or office setting.
